3D Secure Payment

What is the 3D Secure procedure?
The background to this is the second Payment Service Directive of the European Union (Payment Service Directive 2, PSD2 for short). It stipulates that in future customers will have to prove their identity twice for all electronic payments in the European Union.

The 3D secure process is implemented in different ways. The Mastercard SecureCode, for example, enables the cardholder to be verified by means of an additional security code, which must be entered directly at the customer's issuer bank via an external page. With Visa, the process works very similarly using the Verified by Visa principle, in which the issuer sets a password and a personal security message when registering.

The 3-D Secure process should therefore bring more security and trust for Internet customers and shop operators alike. On the other hand, an additional step and a redirection are necessary during the ordering process in the online shop.

How does the 3D Secure process work with my credit card?
